Remembrance and Commemoration

Concert to Mark Five Noteworthy Milestones

Vimy Ridge

Cathedral Arts, the arts programme at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, will present its annual Remembrance and Commemoration concert on Saturday, November 10th at 2:00PM at the Cathedral, 420 Sparks Street (near Bronson). The event will feature the National Capital Concert Band, under the direction of Rocco Romeo, and guest performer Michael Carty, tenor in the Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, accompanied by Matthew Larkin, Cathedral Organist and Director of Music. Again this year, cadets from across the Capital will serve as ushers at the concert.

The Remembrance and Commemoration Concert has been a long tradition for Cathedral Arts. It has brought together musical artists from across Ottawa’s diverse community to pay homage to the generations of Canadians who served their country in times of war and in times of peace.

This year, Remembrance and Commemoration will mark a number of historic milestones: the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812; the 95th Anniversary of Vimy, Hill 70, and Passchendaele; the 70th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid; and the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Coast Guard.

The concert programme is designed to reflect reverence, pride, celebration and hope. Music will include selections by Canadian James Gayfer; marches by Kenneth Alford and Thomas Bidgood; heroic compositions by Sir Edward Elgar and Sir William Walton; memorable tunes from Glenn Miller, Jule Styne, and Sammy Fain; and a rousing presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”.
